GoMA Creative Fair

Desperate for a career in the arts? In possession of a railcard, or, if resident in Glasgow, legs? Trot over to the GoMA Creative Careers Weekend at the Gallery of Modern Art and take advantage of a unique opportunity to pester the best in the business.

Professionals from the visual arts, design, architecture, education and museums will be displaying their wares and expertise in what promises to be a intensive programme of talks with information stalls on each day. This is a chance to find out how to get a job in the arts from people who are willing to share their experiences and achievements with anybody, openly and for free.

Event organiser Frances McCourt from GoMA's Learning and Access Team explains: “This is a fantastic opportunity to hear first-hand how people have successfully paved a career in different art and design fields and how this is possible - the event attracts young and old alike, from young people and parents or teachers looking for advice on art school and creative careers, to those already working in the arts keen to develop their career, along with those who've always wanted to have a career in the creative industries but just aren't sure how. There will be plenty of chances to visit talks, ask questions, see examples of work and visit our information stalls on careers and learning.”

Ten artists and arts professionals operate from two galleries simultaneously on each day. It's a stellar line up: various experts in their field; prolific and award-winning artists; and advice from educational bodies with representatives such as Lesley Black, the careers advisor for the Glasgow School of Art. On Saturday, sculptor Belinda Guidi and film maker Blair Young are among the artists to give talks and advice while Sunday's programme includes such diverse fields as fashion, painting and graphic design with Claire Forsyth of the Glasgow Print Studio, fashion designer Lesley Hepburn, and Elaine Woo, painter and community art tutor. If you're at all serious about working in the arts, you really can't afford to miss it.
