Mother and sister accuse The Dark Knight of living up to his name

The internet is buzzing with reports that Christian Bale, the latest actor to assume the role of Gothan City's caped crusader, has gone from red carpet to jail cell - almost literally.

Present last night at the European premiere of the latest movie in the franchise, The Dark Knight, in London, this afternoon Bale failed to turn up for a scheduled radio interview to promote the film; police then released a statement that "a 34 year old man [...] was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault - he currently remains in custody."

The allegation is said to have come from Bale's 61 year old mother and 40 year old sister who claim that the actor was violent towards them in a suite at The Dorchester Hotel last Sunday.

This is, however, the first brush with celebrity scandal that the Welsh actor has endured, and all seems to have been conducted quite cordially. The police have stated the man in question "attended a police station by appointment", which leads one to suspect some kind of compromise was reached regarding the arrest, allowing Bale to fulfill his premiere obligations and then hand himself in. Presumably after surrendering his grappling hook, night vision goggles and Batarang.
