A Muso's Top 10: Tricky

Posted by Dave Kerr, Thu 26 Jun 2008
The ever-rasping Tricky Kid marks his return with a rediscovery of his musical heritage called Knowle West Boy this month (see our review in Records). We recently gave the dark prince of trip-hop a tinkle while he was preparing to seep under the door in gaseous cloud form, to ask which tunes would get him most juiced if he were to find himself in a training montage situation.

“Polly Harvey still inspires me lyrically, but I don’t listen to a lot of new music. I find with a lot of new albums they write two singles, and then it’s over. The last album I bought was the Kaiser Chiefs, for that one single. I thought [Ruby] was fucking incredible, and then there was nothing else!”

1. Audio Two – Top Billin’
2. The Beat – Mirror in the Bathroom
3. N.W.A – Straight Outta Compton
4. Dolly Parton – Jolene
5. Fleetwood Mac – The Chain
6. PJ Harvey – Dry
7. Max Romeo – I Chase the Devil
8. Motorhead – Ace of Spades
9. Public Enemy – Bring the Noise
10. Eric B and Rakim – Check Out My Melody

The Bristol MC also divulged that he’ll be playing a Scottish festival date this Summer. Will it be The Edge? Hydro Connect? Nobody knows, not even him, but keep yr eyes peeled for a full interview where Tricky talks guns, grime and government next issue.
