Inside The Fire sees Disturbed in typically cheery territory. The Devil comes to visit front man David Draiman with a proposition: kill yourself and find your deceased girlfriend in the afterlife. So far, so Disturbed then. Musically, however, the group have progressed; less robotic than on previous records, there is something more organic about this offering. Draiman has returned to his more rhythmic style of vocal delivery, less melodic than before, while Dan Donegan’s guitar solos have genuine feeling. The riffs are as crunchy as ever, the drums thunderous, and perhaps more than ever they sound comfortable in their own skin. [Neal Parsons]
