Lemoncustard Comedy Club - 16-23 Mar, Brel

A silly playtime for adults is what you'll get when greeted by charming hostesses Dee Custance and Sian Bevan at this kindergarten variety show. Games, prizes, and of course stand-up comedy are the day's activities as Custance and Bevan lead the audience through the lot. A mix of talents new and old adds a sprinkling of the unexpected to the mix, and the line up changes weekly during the festival.

When The Skinny looked in, an uneven rota of experienced and strangely earnest performers meant that the laughs weren't always quick to hand, but this meant that when the truly funny took the stage it was all the more rewarding. Among them were Des Clarke, who, though he didn't manage to get through to his actual set, stormed the stage and wowed the audience with his interactive banter. Headliner, Teddy, screeched his womanly urgings to the happy assembly, after other acts including Wil Hodgson and newcomer Mikey Adams completed a full set with stories of skinhead pasts, detailed knowledge of Trowbridge, and taught us that reading notes onstage can actually be quite funny. It's got a bit of growing up to do, but Lemoncustard is a demented child's miscellany of comedy fun, and a good time for it. [Carmody Wilson]
