Correcto - Correcto

The cynics among us may feel that Glasgow four-piece Correcto's status as a signed band may have a little to do with drummer Paul Thomson's stick-work in up-and-coming hipsters Franz Ferdinand, rather than the band's own accomplished songsmithery. Judging by this, their debut long-player, this ham-fisted assumption might not be far from the truth. The opening threesome of Inuit, Do It Better and first single Joni are solid tracks, with Big Star guitars beneath Doherty-on-a-good-day vocals. Joni in particular catches the ear, and is the best on offer here. The remaining nine numbers are just a little too forgettable, with guitars by numbers and vocals veering towards a Lydon/Weller hybrid which, as you can imagine, doesn't really work Even the more gentle Save Your Sorrow and Even Though seem like ill-conceived plans to showcase some kind of diversity purely for the hell of it.
