Mogwai @ The Liquid Room

The Liquid Room is heaving and with its tenth birthday celebrations in full swing, how appropriate that the inaugural performers are on show tonight. Well, "actually the second," Stuart Braithwaite points out, "Arab Strap opened for us." Right on queue, Aidan Moffat saunters on the stage to join Mogwai on R U Still In 2 It. Here is a band that do not need to over-exert on stage to delight. As the guitar quartet fall into place at the front of the stage, an image of the personification of Spector's Wall of Sound is hard to reject. The multifaceted construction of each song is something not always appreciated on record but abundantly clear tonight. Asides from the superb music, a cheeky dedication "to the guy caught selling Es... he clearly did some business before he was caught" ensures everyone goes home smiling... well almost!
