Fall Out Boy @ The Garage

Even the sturdy brick walls of The Garage creak under the strain

Two signs of a good gig: hundreds of people queuing outside the venue hours beforehand, and inside the band pleading with the crowd to move back to avoid crushing down the front. Fall Out Boy achieve both at the Garage, after being greeted by a sea of outstretched arms and mobile video phones. The four-piece from Chicago blast through an energetic set, including Sugar, We are Going Down and This Ain't a Scene it's an Arms Race, with equal enthusiasm and thrashing guitars. Somewhere between Blink 182 but closer to My Chemical Romance, it's hard not to get swept along with their live shows, and the young crowd lap up every minute, as even the sturdy brick walls of The Garage creak under the strain. By the time the band urge the crowd to form a circle near the back and 'go mental' they don't need a second invitation. [Andrew Dewar]
