Mystery Jets @ QMU, 3 May

Having endured a pair of bland and forgettable support acts, The Mystery Jets took the stage and brought welcome hope that this wasn't a student "murder-a-tune" night after all. However, on this occasion, bad things come in threes. The Mystery Jets have an unexplicable charm that lures the listener in like the proverbial cheese in a mouse trap. With indie sensibilities and sixties psych-folk, the Jets seem to be engaged in a clandestine effort to bring prog rock back to da kids. You could be forgiven for tapping your toe and nodding your head, but don't be fooled. Their sound's varied influences mean that they avoid being easily pigeonholed but with unremarkable songs, minimal stage presence and dire harmonies, a new hole could be fashioned for them alone. The said hole should then be filled with soil and sealed over with concrete.
