Exhibition Highlights

For their first new exhibition of the year, Tramway will show Glasgow painting legend Steven Campbell’s experimental collage works (20 Jan-25 Mar). Love will feature 12 large scale multimedia collages made between 1988 and 1991 by one of Glasgow’s most celebrated artists. Then from 16 February-18 March, they'll present a survey of the acclaimed Glasgow-based artist and filmmaker Margaret Salmon.

In Platform, until 11 February,  you can still see Helen De Main’s huge locally-based project and large-scale prints of the participants in her consciousness-raising group which ran from the venue during 2016-17.

Still running in Dundee Contemporary Arts is Kate V Robertson’s first solo exhibition in a UK institution. Her major installation of new sculptural work draws our attention not only to the walls, but to the floor, ceiling and windows of the most expansive gallery space at DCA until 25 February.

Visual Arts Scotland and the Society of Scottish Artists have joined forces for the first time to present an ambitious collaborative exhibition celebrating contemporary and applied art: Open from 29 January until 8 March. Featuring established artists and makers based in Scotland and internationally and new artists, the exhibition is a unique survey of the diversity of contemporary and applied art being created today.

Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture, The Lighthouse, will once again be opening up their Gallery One for BYOB – Bring Your Own Beamer, created by the artist Raphaël Rozendaal in 2010 as a DIY open source, non-commercial exhibition idea. Since then over 350 exhibitions all over the world have taken the idea and created their own exciting events. This will be the third time it has been held in Glasgow, and will be on until 2 February.

The Fruitmarket Gallery carry on their exploration of Jacqueline Donachie’s current exhibition Right Here Among Them (which finishes on 11 February) with a panel discussion exploring how everyone has the right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. Jacqueline Donachie will be joined by Henry Ward (Creative Director, Freelands Foundation), Kirsten Lloyd (University of Edinburgh), and Alison Stirling (Creative Director, Artlink) to discuss the role of the artist in relation to society, social change and social integration on 18 January – more information about the discussion can be found here.

On 20 January, The Scottish Gallery will host Philip Braham discussing his current exhibition In Time and Silently which is open until 3 February.

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will be hosting their annual Into the New festival, the degree show festival celebrating and exploring the Contemporary Performance Practice students – hosted at the historic Pearce Institute in Govan from 29 January until 1 February.
