Creative Edinburgh Awards shortlist announced

Feature by News Team | 06 Nov 2014

The shortlist for this year’s Creative Edinburgh Awards, which recognise the best contributions to the capital’s cultural scene, has been revealed ahead of the awards ceremony next week.

There are twenty-four nominations in total across the awards’ eight categories, with the 2014 gongs set to be handed out at Creative Edinburgh’s 3rd birthday party on 13 Nov.

Food events organisers Jelly & Gin – the team behind such events as the ‘Sensation’ sensory tasting evening at this year’s Edinburgh Science Festival and 'immersive whisky experience' Create:Eat:Whisky – are nominated in both the creativity and start-up categories, while multi-arts festival Hidden Door is up for the City Award for “an outstanding creative contribution or activity that has promoted Edinburgh nationally or indeed, internationally" alongside the Edinburgh Art Festival and the capital's UNESCO City of Literature Trust.

The collaboration category is a battle between Letters Home, a multi-part collaboration between city theatre company Grid Iron and the Edinburgh International Book Festival; Tommy Perman and Rob St. John’s Water of Life project to map out the various rivers and streams of the capital using sound, writing and photography; and all-sibling art collective Ortonandon, made up of sisters Katie, Anna and Sophie Orton.

This year’s winners will be announced at Creative Edinburgh’s awards ceremony and 3rd birthday party at Assembly Roxy on 13 Nov at 7pm, which features live music and DJs curated by Edinburgh DIY record label Song, By Toad.

Tickets for the Creative Edinburgh awards are £10, or £6 for paid members. Profits from ticket sales will be donated to the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
